INTERPRETATION
The problem today with theological statements is that often they are given and then surreptitiously interpreted through the postmodern template of assuming that the reader not the writer determines the meaning of a statement. Using the logical fallacy of equivocation, where a term is interpreted differently from the normally understood meaning is dishonest. Some say one thing and mean another. That is dishonest. Therefore we need to establish the how the statements are to be interpreted. The five keys to a viable consistent interpretation are 1. Original intent 2. Historical Context 3. Grammar 4. Syntax 5. Vocabulary. That is the hermeneutic through which language needs to be understood. Errors in theology come from errors in interpretation. Errors in interpretation come from failure to start with the understanding of language given in scripture.

LANGUAGE
Language is given by God. Adam and Eve were created as talking from the beginning. Languages were confused from each other by God at Babel. God has from the beginning used language to communicate to man. Language ability is not an invention of man. God chose language as the means through which He communicates to man. No one disputes man’s sinful ability to misuse language. However, God is perfectly able to communicate with man through language by His written word when it is used according to the logic and reason which God has built into not only language but the universe.

“SEE DICK RUN.”
S9 - The Bible is not subject to multiple interpretations such that its teachings are rendered incomprehensible or impractical. It is written in a language with words, grammar, syntax, and meaning. The confusions are a result, not of the nature of the Bible, but our refusal to limit ourselves to what it actually says. Take for example the English sentence “See Dick run.” We cannot agree we are speaking English and disagree we are supposed to look at whatever the noun Dick is and observe it as being self-motivated at some speed faster than a walk. The problem is that we are so busy arguing over whether the noun Dick is bending his knees, or not bending his knees, heel-toeing it, or toe-heeling it, going 3.5 miles an hour, or 4.0 miles an hour, that we never look at Dick. Christ described that as straining a gnat and swallowing a camel. If we would accept the simple concept that it only says what it says and obey it, we would quickly develop the experience base to relate to more of it.

RELATIONSHIP OF THE REVELATION OF CREATION TO THE REVELATION OF THE WORD OF GOD
Although God reveals Himself both in creation and in the Word of God, these two revelations are not equal in clarity. The revelation of creation, which is far easier to misinterpret than the written word, is subject to the explicit written word of God. If our interpretation of creation is in disagreement with the explicit meaning in the grammar, syntax, and vocabulary of the written word of God, then our interpretation of creation is wrong.

THE WORD OF GOD ALONE AS THE SOURCE OF OUR WORLD VIEW
I have been convinced by study of the word of God that it ALONE is the ONLY source of what we can know about God. Nature reveals His eternal power and godhead and the Spirit of God convicts us of sin. However, through nature we cannot know the solution to our predicament. It is the word of God itself that is the one and only authority for not only our knowledge of God but our worldview. Everything starts with the word of God or it is false. Does that mean that all truth is found in scripture? No, the Bible does not teach explicitly that 2+2=4 in a base 10 system. However, it does teach that a rational and logical God made a rational and logical universe. So 2+2=4 in a base 10 system is in keeping with the worldview of the Bible. So all truth must be. If “science” as defined by man disagrees with the clear teaching of scripture, that science is wrong, not the word of God. Good science will always agree with God’s word. Most people throw around the word “science” yet have no idea at all what it actually is and what it is not. See the article on The Fallacy of The Science Bucket.

BEST SUMMARY OF THE TRUTH IN SCRIPTURE
I am convinced that although the Word of God alone is the final and only authority, the best summary of the theology found in scripture are the three-forms of unity, Westminster Standards, which include the Confession, and the longer, and shorter catechisms. My understanding of scripture is in keeping with the tradition of Augustine of Hippo, Calvin, Turretin, Edwards, and men of like mind. Of course, neither this tradition or any man or men are infallible. All statements of understanding must comply with and be corrected by scripture.
